Re: To whom it may concern
I met Jacques S. Matthiessen in 2011during my work as a CKU Local Consultant to the Uganda Youth Cultures Project that ran for three years (2011-20130). Jacques S. Matthiessen served as head of the Danish theater team which worked in cooperation with the Department of Performing Arts and Film – Makerere University to implement the ‘Youth Theatre Project ' where young people from Uganda were allowed to express their thoughts and dreams on stage through; songs, dance and theater, with help and training from professional trainers from Passepartout Theatre Production- Denmark and department of Performing Arts and Film – Makerere University, Uganda.
Jacques S. Matthiessen (JM) was involved in the start-up of the first production in 2011 at the planning and auditions levels. The following two years JM was helping to plan, implement, coordinate, be contact person between Uganda and Denmark and the stage director in both productions, 'WE' in 2012 and 'WE2' in 2013. Both performances were a big success in the process - production and real spectacle that has put a lot of thought going and breeding ground for continued work in Uganda and to continue with the cooperation.
JM is a team player and a very good listener, with great theater experience and clear tools to implement a production with 20 young people from different cultures, with colleagues from other schools/background, and well skilled to navigate the intercultural and international relations and possibilities.
It would for me and my colleagues be a great professional - artistic pleasure if we had the opportunity to continue working together. I therefore recommend JM for all the support he can get to continue with the good work.
In the hope of continued cooperation and with respect

Letter of Recommendation
I am glad to write something about Jacques S. Matthiessen whom I have known since 2007 not only as a talented theatre director but also as a very efficient theatre trainer, planner, and team player.
I have closely watched him work with the artists of Aarohan-Gurukul in Kathmandu Nepal, training them for physical and mime theatre and inspiring them, in the year 2007 and 2008
Moreover, realizing the fact that youth theatre was virtually absent in Nepal, and there was rarely a tradition of theatre tour, he initiated a project to fill this gap. This led to the production of "Bathi Rani" (The Wise Queen) in the year 2009 a play by the young actors, primarily for children and young audience, which was designed for a tour. This project was instrumental in forcing the Nepali theatre practitioners to think about both children and youth theatre, and theatre touring. In the recent years, there has been significant progress in both the aspects, and the credit goes to him to a large extent.
I am really impressed by his years-long dedication for the cause of theatre, cultural understanding through its exchange, and ultimately for a change in the world through art.
I wish him all the best for his good work, and strongly recommend him for any grant, funding or support to continue his commendable work for theatre, for cultural exchange, and for the society at large.
